Friendly Letters

We started a  little letter writing review today. We are reviewing the parts of a friendly letter and getting ready to write to a friend in class.  We started by reading one of my favorite letter books, Dear Mrs. La Rue by Mark Teague.  While we were reading we discussed the format of the letters and made note of the parts we saw in each letter.

After that we sang this fabulous little Friendly Letter song that I found at Teaching Maddeness.  We also made these super cute foldables to show the parts of a letter that we found on her site too!  The kiddos had a great time creating them and they are glued into their journals to use for reference later.

Tomorrow we are going to begin planning our writing.  I am going to give the kiddos a planning sheet to get there ideas down and some cute letter writing paper.  I will share it tomorrow as soon as it is done.

This is just the beginning...I hope

I have been so inspired by all the fabulous blogs that I have read and that I follow that I wanted to share some of the great things I am doing with my students.  I hope that I can bring a little fun and learning to other classrooms.

A little about my class.  I teach a 2/3 split, 20 2nds and 6 3rds.  This means that this year is going to be an adventure for the students and me.  As the year goes on I hope to share what we learn on this adventure.
